What a gas geyser installation involves.
Running the gas line from the cylinder or bank to the geyser, fitting the flue for safe exhaust venting, connecting the water inlet and outlet, pressure testing the full system for leaks, and signing the Gas Certificate of Compliance once everything passes. Internal geysers need proper ventilation checked against SANS 10087. External units mounted on an outside wall are the simpler and more common installation in Cape Town, from Woodstock and the City Bowl to the Atlantic Seaboard and the Southern Suburbs.

Which cylinder size you need.
19kg is the minimum for a single-bathroom household running a gas geyser. Larger households, or homes with more than one bathroom, usually need a 48kg cylinder or a bank of two.
19kg single cylinder
The minimum size for a single-bathroom household. It runs the geyser, but you are on a tighter refill schedule and more exposed to running dry mid-shower on a cold morning.
48kg cylinder, or a bank of two
Recommended for larger households or more than one bathroom. Two cylinders with an auto-changeover valve mean the geyser switches to the second bottle automatically when the first runs dry, so you WhatsApp us for a refill on your own schedule instead of an emergency one.
Where a gas geyser can actually go.
A gas geyser burns air and vents combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, so where it can go is decided by flueing and ventilation rather than by convenience. It can go in a bathroom, but only where it is flued to the outside and the room has permanent ventilation that nobody can close off. What it cannot do is sit sealed inside a cupboard or in a room with no fixed air supply. That is what catches out renovations, because a sealed cupboard is usually exactly where the old electric geyser sat.

What a gas geyser installation costs.
From R3,500 for a standard external installation, which is a starting price rather than a fixed quote. Larger households, internal ventilation work or longer pipe runs push it up, typically into the R3,500 to R9,500+ range depending on the site.

A starting price, not a fixed quote. The final number comes from the on-site assessment. You buy the geyser from your own supplier, and we supply the cylinders and a cage where one is required. Full installation pricing for other appliances is on our gas installation page.
What moves the price.
- Internal or external mounting. An internal unit needs a balanced flue and more ventilation work.
- Cylinder size. A single 19kg cylinder is cheaper to set up than a 48kg bank with auto-changeover.
- Flue routing. The further the flue has to run to a safe outside point, the more it costs.
- Existing pipework. Old pipe or an unsafe previous installation gets quoted separately.
- Access. A ground-floor Woodstock flat is quicker than a third-floor unit with no lift.
- Distance from the cage to the geyser. Every extra metre of gas line adds material and labour.
