A drop-in gas hob connected, regulated and pressure tested to SANS 10087 before the Certificate of Compliance is signed.
What a hob or stove installation involves.
Running the gas line from the cylinder to the appliance, fitting the regulator and isolation valve, checking clearances around the burners, pressure testing the connection for leaks, and signing the Gas Certificate of Compliance once it passes. A single hob connection in a Woodstock or City Bowl flat is usually the simplest install we do. A freestanding stove, or a kitchen renovation with a moved gas point, takes longer.
From your first message to the certificate, in one visit.
A standard hob or stove connection is a single appointment. Nothing is signed off until the line holds pressure and every burner lights clean.
Send the kitchen
WhatsApp a photo of the kitchen, the appliance and where the cylinder can sit. You get a starting price and a booking.
Run the gas line
Regulator, high-pressure line and isolation valve fitted, with clearances checked against the burner positions.
Pressure test
The connection is put under pressure and held. Every burner is lit and checked for a clean blue flame.
COC in your hand
The Gas Certificate of Compliance is completed and handed over before we leave. That is the document your insurer asks for.
Why Cape Town kitchens use Red Flame.
We are a gas shop first. The installation is how most customers meet us, and the refills are why they stay.
You keep the appliance choice
Buy the hob or stove wherever you get the best price. We install any brand and take no markup on the unit itself.
One visit, not three
Assessment, installation, pressure test and the certificate are the same appointment for a standard kitchen.
We supply the gas side
Cylinders, regulator and a cage where the setup needs one, all from our Woodstock shop at 170 Victoria Road.
Refills afterwards
Once the hob is running we deliver refills free across our Cape Town area. Most customers never carry a cylinder again.
Internal or external cylinder setup.
Where the cylinder sits decides most of the job. We assess the kitchen on site and recommend whichever setup actually suits how it gets used.
Cylinder inside the cupboard
A ventilated kitchen cupboard holding a 9kg cylinder is the standard setup for a single hob in a small flat or apartment, common across Woodstock and the City Bowl. No plug points may sit in the same partition as the cylinder. It stays out of sight and the cupboard door is the only access anyone needs.
Cylinder outside in a cage
A freestanding stove, a double hob, or a kitchen that also feeds a braai point usually needs an external cylinder or bank instead, mounted in a gas cage outside. Bigger cylinders mean longer between swaps, and nobody has to enter the house to change one.
The 200mm rule.
SANS 10087 requires at least 200mm of clearance between any plug point or light switch and a gas burner or release point, and no plug points at all in the same partition as an internal cylinder. This trips up a lot of DIY kitchen renovations. An electrician places a socket exactly where the hob was meant to go, and the installation fails compliance before it starts.
Worth checking before the tiling or the cabinetry goes in, not after. If you are mid-renovation, send us the kitchen plan and we will tell you whether the gas point and the sockets can live where they are drawn.
Hob and stove installation pricing.
From R2,500 for a standard connection. Freestanding stoves, moved gas points and external cylinder setups cost more depending on piping distance.
| Service | From (ZAR) | Not Included |
|---|---|---|
| Gas hob / stove installation | R2,500 | Appliance, cylinders, and cage if required |
| Gas cage supply & fit | R1,450 | Cylinders |
| Certificate of Compliance | R950 | Repairs found on inspection, quoted separately |
A starting price, not a fixed quote. The final number comes from the on-site assessment. You buy the hob or stove from your own supplier, and we supply the cylinders and a cage where one is required. Full pricing for other appliances is on our gas installation page.
What moves the price.
- Distance from cylinder to hob. Every extra metre of gas line adds material and labour.
- Whether the gas point moves. Connecting where the point already sits is the cheapest version of this job.
- Internal cupboard or external cage. An external setup means a wall penetration and usually a cage.
- Drop-in hob or freestanding stove. A freestanding stove needs a flexible connection and more clearance checks.
- Existing pipework. If there is old pipe or an unsafe previous install, it gets quoted separately.
- Access. A ground-floor Woodstock flat is quicker than a third-floor unit with no lift.
Gas appliance brands we install.
For a hob or stove you buy the unit from your own supplier and we connect and certify any brand. On the water heating side, these are the three we fit most often in Cape Town homes.
